Apple won’t be able to sell its latest Watch models due to a patent dispute. Effective this weekend, Apple Stores in the US will stop selling the Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2.
Apple Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2 sales stopped
According to the new decision announced by the United States International Trade Commission (ITC), Apple has been found in patent infringement. It was stated that the medical technology company Masimo violated its patents related to blood oxygen sensor technology.
Since 2020, Apple, which has been in legal battles with Masimo over patents, finally lost the deal. Accordingly, it announced that it will stop the sale of Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2 in its online and retail stores in the US.
The suspension of sales will only affect the new generation Watch models that measure blood oxygen levels. The Watch SE, which does not have this sensor, will not be affected. The ITC’s decision also exempts previous sales and repairs within the warranty period. More importantly, it does not affect the Turkish market.
On the other hand, the devices sold so far will continue to function normally. In other words, there will be no step back in measuring blood oxygen levels. However, imports of Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2 to the US may be stopped from December 25.
Apple, on the other hand, expressed its disagreement with the ITC’s decision. It said it will pursue legal options to restart sales in the US as soon as possible. The 60-day review period of the decision also continues.
